A few months ago I launched a basic WHOIS search at Domein.CC. CC names are great, but I am not sure that they rank very well. So I started looking for a domain name that is at least going to get some type-in traffic. WHOIS.cc is listed for sale, but the owner never replied.
The research revealed that WHOIS.bg is available for sale too and after certain negotiations and payments, the name went under my control. I replaced Domain.cc with it and the site started to get some type-in traffic. The numbers are still small, but it is a start.
The basic WHOIS search remained for a while, but I felt that the site needed a more advanced solution. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a great multi-domain search and WHOIS script. Actually, the WHOIS part sucked a bit, but I was able to modify it to work as I wanted.
Currently, WHOIS.bg operates as a full-blown domain search and WHOIS query utility. It allows searching for multiple domain TLDs and gives the option to register them.
Sadly, the query limit for the Bulgarian WHOIS query server (whois.register.bg) is very restrictive. I will try to work with them to raise their limits, but working with register.bg has always been tough.
The old basic WHOIS search is still available under the https://old.whois.bg subdomain.
